The 10k city centre route showcases some of the most legendary sights in Newcastle, including the iconic Tyne Bridge and plenty of city centre landmarks. Expect a rocking DJ set on the Great North Road start & finish line, plenty of high-energy tunes at our motivation stations along the course and roaring crowd support throughout the city centre & all the way to the finish. The celebrations continue after your finish-line moment, with a packed event village on the Town Moor. And don’t forget: there’s also some brilliant bling and an exclusive finisher t-shirt to add to – or kickstart – your collection.
AJ Bell Great North 10k entries are open to runners aged 15+ (10k) on the day of the event. A booking fee (£3.00 per entry) is applied at checkout.

Where does the Great North 10k start and finish?
The Great North 10k starts and finishes on Great North Road. Check out the route map in the route section.
How difficult is the Great North 10k route?
The first couple of kilometres of the Great North 10k are downhill, followed by a 1.5km flat stretch. Then there’s approximately 4.5km of twisty, uphill running, with a final flat 2km dash to the finish line. How do I track runners at the Great North 10k?
Easy – with the free Great Run app. Use our accurate tracking feature to keep tabs on family, friends and elites, see their professional photos as soon as they’re uploaded and stay up to date with race day info and last-minute changes. Available from the Apple app store or Google Play.
When will I receive my race number for the Great North 10k?
Your race number (which also contains your timing chip) will arrive 1-2 weeks before the run.
If you got your hands on a last-minute (i.e. 10 days before or later) or overseas entry, you’ll need to collect your race number from the information point on the Town Moor. Opening hours are in your Event Guide, which will be emailed out a month or so before the race – so keep your eyes on your inbox.
Can I move to a different wave?
If you wish to move to a slower wave then that is fine, simply assemble with the later wave. You do not need to visit the information point. It is not possible to move to a faster wave. Waves are allocated based on your estimated time and cannot be changed.
Can I leave my bag at the start of the Great North 10k?
Yes. Baggage facilities can be found on the Town Moor. Allow plenty of time for dropping off, and make sure you fill out your baggage label (found on your race number), detach it and fasten it securely to your bag before you leave home.
When will I receive pre-event information for the Great North 10k?
Keep a lookout for a ‘One Month To Go!’ email from the Great Run team with your Event Guide. It’s also available on the Great Run website (although check again shortly before the event to catch any updates).
Where can I download a training plan for Great North10k?
Whether you’re a newbie or a veteran, we have free, easy-to-follow 10k training plans for all distances and experience levels on our Training Plan Page. You’ll also find some bespoke information on training for the Great North 10k route in our Training section.
Where can I celebrate after the Great North 10k?
You can celebrate post-run in the event village with music and food vendors. And, the benefit of a start and finish that is close to the city centre is that you’re never very far from the action – go forth and explore Newcastle!
Newcastle United Foundation
We’re partnering with the Newcastle United Foundation at the Great North 10k, for the fourth year. The Foundation is committed to helping people young and old be more active, and feel happier and healthier through sports and well-being programmes across the North East. To celebrate the partnership, there will be a black and white wave on the day, with NUF runners wearing a special black and white striped run number in the clubs’ colours. The wave is open to all runners who want to show their support for The Foundation, simply select that you would like to join when you enter.

What You Get
We have made the decision to introduce optional finisher tees to our Great Run events. You can choose to forgo a finisher tee shirt at the point of entry, and in lieu of this we will make a donation to the National Trust Woodlands Appeal. Find out more here. We will donate a portion of the fulfilment costs for each runner who chooses this option to the fund and commit that this donation to be a approx. £20,000.
