Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the Great South Run start and finish?
The Great South Run starts and finishes on the north end of Avenue De Caen. Signs will direct you to the assembly area for your wave on the day. See the start map for full details.
How difficult is the Great South Run?
The Great South Run is a fairly flat, fast course – perfect for a first time runner or if you’re looking for a new PB. Get our guide to training your Great South Run route in our training advice section below.
How do I track runners at the Great South Run?
Our free and easy-to-use Great Run app. Keep track of family, friends and elites – plus view professional photos as soon as they’re uploaded and get any last-minute updates. Available from the Apple app store or Google Play here.
When will I receive my race number for the Great South Run?
Your race number (which also contains your timing chip) will arrive 1-2 weeks before the run. If you managed to grab a last-minute (i.e. 10 days before or after) or overseas entry, you’ll need to collect your race number from the information point. It’s staffed on the day before and the day of the race – check opening hours and location in the Event Guide here.
Can I move to a different wave?
If you wish to move to a slower wave then that is fine, simply assemble with the later wave. You do not need to visit the information point. It is not possible to move to a faster wave. Waves are allocated based on your estimated time and cannot be changed.
Can I leave my bag at the start of the Great South Run?
Yes. Baggage buses are located in a marquee on Castle Field. Allow plenty of time for dropping off, and make sure you fill out your baggage label (found on your race number), detach it and fasten it securely to your bag before you leave home.
At the end, use your race number to collect your bag.
When will I receive pre-event information for the Great South Run?
Keep a lookout for regular emails from the Great Run team and your Event Guide from the 1 month to go mark. This has *everything* you need to know. You’ll also find it on the Great Run website (although check again shortly before the event for any last-minute updates). View the event guide here.
