Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the Great Scottish Run start and finish?
The Great Scottish Run 10k and half marathon routes both start on St Vincent Street, and both events end with an iconic finish on Glasgow Green. Check out the route maps in The Route section.
How difficult is the Great Scottish Run?
The Great Scottish 10k Route is pretty much a runner’s dream – it starts with a bit of uphill running, followed by 2.5km of downhill and the rest is pretty flat. The half-marathon route has more uphill – approximately six miles of it in the middle – but the final five miles are a mixture of downhill or flat.
How do I track runners at the Great Scottish Run?
Our free Great Run app is the best way to track family, friends and elites. Plus, you can see professional photos as soon as they’re uploaded and get any last-minute updates. Available from the Apple app store or Google Play. Download it here.
When will I receive my race number for the Great Scottish Run?
Your race number (which also contains your timing chip) will arrive 1-2 weeks before the run. If you got your hands on a last-minute (i.e. 10 days before or after) or overseas entry, you’ll need to collect your race number from the information point on Saturday or on the morning of event day – locations and opening hours will be confirmed in the Event Guide.
Can I leave my bag at the start of the Great Scottish Run?
Yes. Baggage buses will be located near to the start and colour-coded depending on your wave. Allow plenty of time for dropping off, and make sure you fill out your baggage label (found on your race number), detach it and fasten it securely to your bag before you leave home.
Baggage buses will close 15 minutes before waves start and relocate to the finish. At the end, use your race number to collect your bag from the finish Glasgow Green. Full details will be in the event guide.
Can I move to a different wave?
If you wish to move to a slower wave then that is fine, simply assemble with the later wave. You do not need to visit the information point. It is not possible to move to a faster wave. Waves are allocated based on your estimated time and cannot be changed.
When will I receive pre-event information for the Great Scottish Run?
Keep a lookout for a ‘One Month To Go!’ email from Great Run with a link to your Event Guide. This has *everything* you need to know. It’s also available here on the website (although we recommend you check again shortly before the event to catch any updates).
Where can I download a training plan for the Great Scottish Run?
Whatever your running experience, we have free, easy-to-follow training plans for all distances on our Training Plans Page. You could also find friends, motivation and accountability by joining our Great Scottish Run group on Strava.
Where can I celebrate after the Great Scottish Run?
Funny you should ask! We’ve got a whole host of recommendations with a 15-minute radius of Glasgow Green from delis to places to grab a celebratory pint. Find out more at our training advice section below.

Motor neuron disease (MND) is a brutal terminal illness which can rapidly strip a person of their ability to walk, talk, swallow, and breathe unaided. Someone’s lifetime risk of developing MND is 1 in 300 and the average life expectancy is just 18 months from diagnosis. You can help MND Scotland fund pioneering research to take us closer to finding a cure for this devastating disease. Until that day comes, we are here to make time count for everyone affected by MND in Scotland, so families can spend the time they have left making precious memories with loved ones. Together, we will make time count and beat MND! Will you join us? To secure your free charity place, please email louise.earley@mndscotland.org.uk or call on 0141 332 3903.
