This is Great Scottish Run: Alison & Anne Marie Moir
Glasgow had a vision 850 years ago to make a difference to the world — and this October, our Great Scottish Runners will do the same.
For sisters Anne Marie and Alison from Glasgow, running isn’t just about the miles — it’s about making a difference. This October, the pair will lace up for the AJ Bell Great Scottish Run 10k to raise funds for the charity Manorview Foundation whose goal is to make life better for people living in difficult circumstances across Scotland.
Anne Marie, who works at the Redhurst Hotel in Giffnock (part of the Manorview group), has seen first-hand how the foundation changes lives. From providing meals for those experiencing homelessness to organising days out for children living in poverty, the foundation’s reach is wide and impactful.
“We’re aiming to raise £700,” Anne Marie explains, “which will provide around 360 meals for people who really need them. Our chefs at the hotel cook the food, it’s packed into warm containers, and then taken into Glasgow to be handed out. It means people not only get a hot meal but can take extra if they need it. Knowing our run will help make that happen keeps us motivated.”
But the foundation’s work isn’t limited to food. Recently, it organised a day trip to M&D’s Theme Park in Glasgow for local children whose families are struggling financially. “The parents were able to work or have a break, while the kids just got to be kids,” Alison says. “It gave them memories they might never otherwise have had. That’s what inspires us — it’s practical help that really changes lives.”

The sisters have taken part in the Great Scottish Run before, previously raising money for the RSPCA. This year, though, feels particularly meaningful.
“It’s the first time we’re running for Manorview Foundation,” Anne Marie says. “Because of my work, I know exactly where the money goes, and it’s such a good cause.”
Training has been a mixture of running and walking — with some steps clocked up on holiday too. “We’re not going for records,” Anne Marie laughs. “We just want to do our best, enjoy it, and get over that finish line together.”
Costumes might even make an appearance: “We’ll definitely have our charity tops on, and maybe a tutu or two,” Alison adds. “Something to make people smile.”
Both sisters agree that the atmosphere of the Great Scottish Run is what brings them back each year. “It’s so inspiring to see thousands of people all running for different reasons and charities you might never have heard of,” Anne Marie says. “It reminds you that you’re part of something bigger.”
And their advice for anyone considering signing up? “Just do it,” says Alison. “Have fun, go at your own pace, and don’t worry about the time. Crossing that finish line is an achievement in itself.”
For Anne Marie and Alison, that finish line will also mean knowing they’ve helped fill plates and create smiles for families across Glasgow.
There still a chance to be a part of the biggest Great Scottish Run yet, but places are selling quickly. Sign up here.
