Continuing to celebrate runners taking part in this weekend’s AJ Bell Great Manchester Run, our next inspirational story is Leah, 26, who is taking in the 10K with her boyfriend Kieran as a thank you for the treatment she received recently at The Christie.

Late in 2024 Leah had stage 2 melanoma, a rare aggressive form of melanoma, removed and whilst luckily it was discovered early and she was referred to specialist cancer care quickly, her road to recovery has been far from easy.

Due to an allergic reaction, now almost 5 months post op she is still struggling with an unhealed wound. The lack of healing mean’s she is unable run the race, however she is allowed to walk it and she is fighting & working hard on her physio to build her strength to achieve her goal as a thank you for the care and treatment she received.

Leah said: “The Christie’s care and support have been absolutely amazing, and the staff helped me through one of the worst times of my life. They dedicated lots of time for me, and answered all my questions and needs, no matter how big or small, with high quality.

I’m running the Great Manchester Run to fundraise for The Christie because I grew up in South Manchester and had always heard about the amazing work they do, and I have now experienced this first hand. I’m so grateful to be able to give back to the community.”

Joining Leah as she continues to show bravery, resilience and strength on Sunday will be her partner Kieran, he said: “The Christie has helped and cared for my girlfriend Leah throughout her cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery. I’m happy to be able to give back to them and help more people receive their help and care.”

The Great Manchester Run Half Marathon is now sold out and remaining places for the 10K are expected to sell out shortly, so enter now to secure your spot on the famous start line.
