As this year’s AJ Bell Great Manchester Run weekend approaches – we’re shining a spotlight on some of our inspiring participants who are running for more than the medal when they lace up their trainers on the 18th May.

Meet Emelone Ijeoma, aka ‘Flo’, an inspiring individual who is on an unwavering mission to encourage both her colleagues and the wider community to experience the joy of taking part in the NHS Blue Wave this year.

After experiencing the Great Manchester Run as a volunteer back in 2018, Flo was immediately captivated by the electric energy she experienced on the day. When a diabetes diagnosis fast tracked her focus on her own health, she took up jogging and walking, joining the run herself soon after was a natural progression. Billing it as ‘One of my favourite days of the year’ Flo’s love of the event has become infectious.

In her role as Event and Facilities Receptionist and Governor at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, she is a committed volunteer and fundraiser tirelessly championing the benefits to be reaped from experiencing the magical Mancunian party around the route. She says, “It’s once a year and it’s so much fun. There’s no competition, no comparison!’

Encouraging colleagues and friends to sign up, fundraise and feel the joy of running together she says to anyone considering this year’s Great Manchester Run ‘Let’s come out, have fun and do our bit!”

For Flo, her motivation for taking part is not about running, a PB, or to beat last years’ time. It is to witness others improve their wellbeing, come together as a community and to fundraise for the Manchester Foundation Trust Charity to make a lasting impact on NHS hospitals.

‘Whether they are running, walking, or rolling I believe that every step and every penny we raise helps to change lives.’

Be part of the action! Places for the 10K, Half Marathon and Junior & Mini kids events are expected to sell out in advance once again, so act fast to secure your spot on the start line.
